Restrained elegance, typical of the Adam style, incorporating the figure of Autumn from the four seasons panel which John Flaxman designed for Josiah Wedgwood, using as his source the famous 'Marlborough Gem'.
Wedgwood and the Adams frequently exchanged ideas, and porcelain Wedgwood plaques were often incorporated in neoclassical chimneypieces, an interesting example being one with a built-in wine lift in Thamas Jefferson's Monticello dining room.
